A Trilogy Of Variant and Optional Rules For OSE, Classic D&D and OSRS

Latest Updates from Our Project:

July/August and Beyond?
over 1 year ago – Sun, Aug 11, 2024 at 10:36:28 AM

Hey all!

I apologize for missing July here. The daily grind got turned up to 11 in Mid-June and most of July was spend with massive overtime at the day job. That said, I was not idle on any of the Kickstarter projects durning this time. I am working diligently on Conventions & Combat and Caster's Codex. Later this month I anticipate being able to share spreads from these.

Here are some class spreads from the Character Codex! Some of you have seen a variation of the Merchant before, if you backed the first printing of Creature Companion. This one has only a few little tweaks in wording. None of you have yet seen our sorcerer class. The third here is how the spread will look for existing classes that have additional or alternate rules for Gateway To Adventure games.

More updates will be coming later this month! We are inching closer to the finish line every day.

Thank you for the support!

Progress, Peoples and Kinship
almost 2 years ago – Wed, Jun 05, 2024 at 05:29:35 PM

He folks. Can't say much, except progress continues on re-writes, layout and reworking some things that had to change with some rules in playtesting. I also have the Dueling rules to edit from Mira now, and they are pretty solid!

Here's a behind the scenes look at the "avanced race" section on Dwarves. Our "advanced races are being called "Peoples of the Mid-Realm". "Peoples" directly having a pedigree back to Appendix N with Tolkien referring to his sentient races as "peoples." It has a bit of immersion to it. Likewise, what in D&D were called "sub races" back in the day are being referred to as "Kin" or Kinships." I always had a problem with "subraces" back in the day. It just never sounded like something you would hear folks in the game world referring to anyone as. "Kin" is most definitely something you might hear. "My people are the dwarves, my kin are the hill dwarves from the foothills of the Silver Mountains." So, here is your preview!

BACKERKIT

It bears mentioning that 92% of you have filled out your surveys on Backerkit! That's great, but it means 8% have not. Now, obviously we are not shipping yet, but it has been brought to my attetion that at least SOME that have not filled out the survey do not have a Backerkit account. THAT is likely why some of you have not received the survey. PLEASE, if you have not filled out a survey yet, go to Backerkitand creat an account! If you do not have a Backerkit account and fill out your survey there, you will not get your rewards when it comes time to fulfill them. ALL REWARDS ARE BEING FULFILLED THROUGH THE BACKERKIT SURVEY. Digital distrobution and shipping will be handled using and through Backerkit, if you do not have the survey completed there, you will not get your rewards! Please get an account if you don't have one and get those surveys in!

As always, your support is greatly appreciated!

First May Update
almost 2 years ago – Sat, May 11, 2024 at 03:21:00 PM

Hey folks, sorry I'm a bit later than I originally promised here. We hit a string of crap luck with things in life, both business and personal. Anyway, this is just a short update to let you know that we are trudging onward and to give you a couple preview pages as promised. Without further ado, here is our alternative Alignment section in the Character Compendium.

As always, thank you for your support!

Progress Report!
almost 2 years ago – Fri, Apr 19, 2024 at 12:47:55 PM

Hello everyone!

Here is our April progress report.

We are not as far along with the layout/revisions for Character Compendium as we had hoped (we wanted to have it complete), but it is the largest of the three volumes. That said we are making good headway. In the coming weeks I will be sharing some various spreads and larger sections that are "complete (sans final edit). Here is a teaser with our alternative attribute rolling system. We will share something else each week for the next 2 weeks (minimum).

Than you all for backing!

Revised and Updated Time Frames, Getting Into the Final Stretch
about 2 years ago – Fri, Mar 08, 2024 at 10:55:03 AM

Hey folks!

Dropping a line to show you where we currently stand. Updates, per book are below. First I would like to put out the following regarding the Backerkit and Pre-Order pages.

  1. There are still some folks that have not filled out their Backerkit Surveys. This is alright since we are not delivering quite yet, but this still needs to be done. It has been brought to my attention that several backers did not have Backerkit accounts, and so are not getting the Backerkit emails. This KS is fulfilling through Backerkit. You will need a Backerkit account set up, if you do not already have one. Please get your accounts set up. I will have BK send another reminder of the surveys in a couple weeks. If you do not have a Backerkit account set up, you will not receive your rewards.
  2. RE: Pre-orders. There have been several folks that have written to us asking if we can extend preorders into April, due to income tax refunds coming in. We will do so as we are not yet shipping physical product.

Now, onto where everything stands, with rough dates of completion for all 3 of the main books below! Note that we are a bit behind, as we have been on this project, but things have come together quite nicely. We are taking now through May to get the books completed (revised, fixed and through final edit). As each are completed you will get PDFs through Backerkit!

  1. Character Compendium: We have been working on revisions, clean up and layout on this one for the past few weeks! It's looking decent and should be ready for final edit by early April. Once we go to final edit, we will be sharing some spreads. We have some of the art for this one still coming in, due over the next 2 weeks. Once this one comes back from final edit, it will be ready to roll out to you in PDF form through Backerkit! Expect this in PDF sometime mid-late April!
  2. Contemplations and Combat Conspectus: This one will be betting the revision and layout treatment in April. We are still waiting on the piece on duels from our guest author, but she assures us we will see the latest draft, ready to go in the next couple weeks, so we will have it ready to roll once we begin revisions and layout in April. This should be ready to roll out to final edit in late April or early May, so you should be receiving the PDFs mid-late May!
  3. Caster's Codex: We will be giving this one the layout/revision treatment beginning no later than early May. We are expecting final guest author Mirror Mage spells by April 1st to fit in to your layout. We are still playing around with the rune system a bit to work out any kinks we find that are remaining, but that should be ironed out soon so the system is ready to roll when we go into revisions. This one is slated to go to edit no later than late May/first week of June. PDFs will be issued in June.
  4. Bonus module. The bonus module is written. Cover is being commissioned. It is going to edit by the end of this month and going to print after that, as it is softcover being printed separately from the hardcover books.

Regarding the printed product shipping. I have been advised to check in with our chosen printer at the time the first book is ready to go to print. As all 3 are roughly the same size, we will then be able to tell (based upon the printer's workload and shipping rates) if it makes more sense to have them printed as they are ready, or to print all 3 together when all 3 are ready.

We will keep you aware of the situation as things begin to start going to final edit! I will also share the cover art for the module when it becomes available.

Thank you all for your patience on this project! I am sure the books will have been worth the wait!
